Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and a city full of museums, shopping, restaurants, parks, and a beautiful mountain range.

I used the hop-on hop-off bus to see what was available in the city and found it stopped at most of the main places I wanted to see. It goes all through the city and even has a stop at the ship port.

I definitely recommend getting a ticket for the bus and using it to get around the city.

The bus route goes all around the main parts of the city where you will find the shopping, restaurants, and museums

The Hop-on bus stops are very easy to see and are right on the main walkways and streets.

These are some highly recommended museums and are on the hop on bus routes:

These are some of my suggestions for tours in and around Reykjavik:

There are many options for tours from Reykjavik - Take a look and find what suits you best for your vacation:

I had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe (Yes, I found another one!) As you know by now if you read my other Blogs, I stop at a Hard Rock Cafe if there is one nearby.

I really love the atmosphere and it's fun to see all the layouts and wall decorations that each one offers in the different cities.

I enjoyed walking around the city, I was able to take in the local shops, houses, apartments, and just watch the people.

I did a full day bus tour to see the Golden Circle, Blue Lagoon with Ticket and Kerid Volcanic Crater

There were beautiful waterfalls, large volcanic craters, hot springs geysers, and beautiful landscaping along the way.

Not to mention the beautiful Blue Lagoon spa!

The Blue Lagoon is as amazing as you have always heard it was. The crystal blue water, hot steaming but comfortable water, and all the landscaping around it which show all the signs of volcanic activity and lave.

You can see the signs of the most recent eruption were lava flowed right next to the blue lagoon spa. You can see where the lava flowed over the old road to the lagoon and is now blocked with a dirt wall built up to divert lava flow around the lagoon and nearby power plant.

It is an amazing site to watch how Iceland jumps into action and know exactly what to do when a volcanic eruption occurs. My own opinion and thoughts, compare it to the east coast living with hurricanes, and the mid-west living with tornados. It is a way of life and just something they understand and work around.

My Blue Lagoon spa experience

My package was the Premium level - This included:

  • 3 Mud Masks at the Mask Bar

  • Use of towel

  • 2 drinks of your choice at the swim-up bar

  • Use of bathrobe

It was a fun experience to try the different mud masks. You swim up to the mud mask bar and select one of the three masks - Silica Mud Mask, Lava Scrub Mask, and Algae Mask

You apply the mud and after about 10 minutes, you go to the cold Glaser spicket next to the mud bar and rinse off the mud.

There is also a swim-up bar where you can select a non-alcoholic health drink or your choice of local beer.

It was a wonderful experience and so relaxing! Once you are there, you are able to stay as long as you want. There is no time limit to how long you can stay in the water.

The best ending to a perfect day was the surprise we got to see while heading back to the cruise ship. The bus driver pulled over because the Northern Lights were making an appearance! These pictures were taken standing outside the bus just after we left the Blue Lagoon at about 9:30pm.

These are beautiful acts of nature, and they faded away just as fast as they appeared. It isn't always available to see the lights, so I feel very blessed and excited that I was able to see such an amazing site!

Iceland is a beautiful country with so many different scenarios to see. You have the city, mountains, glaciers, waterfalls, and snowcapped mountains.

The temperatures in Reykjavik are around 23–35.6°F (−5–2°C) in winter and 54–60°F (12–15°C) in summer.

I would love to go back to Reykjavik and spend more time in some of the museums and looking at the local area. When I was there it was on a cruise, so I had time to sample different areas but not really spend time seeing everything in depth.

I think a land tour of Iceland would be fun and be able to spend more time specifically in Iceland alone.
